Hakim Optical Warranty FRAUD

HAKIM OPTICAL IS FRAUDULANTLY ADVERTISING GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND IS NOT DELIVERING ON IT.

For More Information & Many Comments go to: http://mangledspecsbyhakim.blogspot.com/

On December 15, 2007, I went to Hakim Optical at 617 Princess St., Kingston with my new prescription. My boyfriend helped me pick out two new pairs of frames, which fit extremely well and looked rather nice. I was not only happy with my selections, but I was also very pleased with how well they both fit. My first mistake was paying for everything in advance.

Actually, my first real mistake was going there at all!!! I asked the lady, who had to "fit" them whether I would receive my two pairs of glasses before the end of the year. She advised me that I would, even with the Christmas vacation schedule. It was supposed to be shortly after Christmas.

I waited and waited and waited ... for the phone call, so I could pick up my new specs. It never came. Finally, exasperated, I telephoned them on January 2, 2008. I was advised, by the manager, that they had been trying to reach me for days. Now, I had given them my phone number several times. It was recorded on a separate form, which they held, as well. No one bothered to check and it seems ludicrous that they were "allegedly" trying the same wrong number for days!!! My number begins with 547. The number they recorded on my invoice was 564 . That's in Ottawa. I'm in Kingston. Go Figure. The last 4 digits were not even close to mine! Incompetence. When I looked closely again at the invoice, I saw that some moron used the last 4 digits of my PN (their file number apparently) as the last 4 digits of my phone number. Morons.

When I went to pick them up and first tried on both pairs, I noticed immediately that they were very warped. One pair was so warped, that on the right side it stuck out over an inch from my face, while on the other side, it was nearly flush to my face. The manager started manipulating both pairs, but he made matters even worse. He bent the arms, twisted the frames, and did more bending and tweaking, which did not help at all. He totally mangled them, even more, if that was really possible.

I have had 3 prescriptions filled before, over the years. At no time before did this happen to me, but of course I had never gone to a Hakim store before either. I have never had to have glasses adjusted like this. As yet, I have been unable to find anyone who has had glasses given to them in such mangled condition, and I have asked many people. I tried to reach, what I thought was their head office through their website, but think it was just a call centre of some kind at a toll-free number and I only reached a telephone operator of some sort. He just told me to go back to the store. I have no idea how to reach anyone in authority.

I would appreciate feedback from anyone, especially if you are a victim of Hakim's Alleged Specialists! I am still unable to wear these glasses, either pair. They are too uncomfortable and cause headaches, which is the milder problem. Of course, since I am a woman, they are going to do whatever the hell they want to, aren't they? What do you think???

Please feel free to check out all the comments listed at the following post. You will find them very interesting indeed.: http://mangledspecsbyhakim.blogspot.com/

they don't care about customer service. you won't get satisfaction with them. they did the same to my glasses at that kingston store. the manager is a piece of crap. next time you should try to find a reputable optician.

Anonymous said...

Sorry to hear what happened to you. Same thing happened to me in Ottawa. When they supposedly fixed them, they were even worse. They have horrible non-existant really, customer service.

Anonymous said...

i've heard many complaints about the lack of service at many of their stores but that kingston one seems to be among the worst of them.

it makes me sick. big business can get away with anything and everything. they don't have to answer to anyone. that's how they get so rich. they do shoddy work probably with substandard product. i agree that it is because you are a woman that you got totally screwed over. i'm sending your link to everyone i know so no one else i know will ever use these creeps. and i'll ask them to pass it along to everyone they know.

I'm in Toronto and had a similar experience at the Wilson St. store. I fought tooth and nail and never got satisfaction. My glasses were much worse after they were fixed. I agree with all the comments I read that they are no good at all. I'm glad I found this site so that I can show people I have been telling about this problem. They can know it is not an isolated incident. Good luck in your fight kitten. I'm sure we are all in your corner.

same thing happened to me at an ontario store. like most of you, i am guessing, i am a woman. yah, i read most of the comments. i wasn't surprised to learn hakimi is iranian knowing how women are treated at the stores. amazing isn't it? how much more will they get away with? least we can spread the word can't we? you bet i will now that i know there are so many of us.

Hi everyone. I just happened upon this as it was being published. I am shocked but what are the chances that I was here at the same time. I had problems in an Ontario store, in Toronto. I couldn't sleep and logged on, checking out new publishes. What are the chances? Anyway, my glasses were so horrible and they never fixed them. I was so sick of going in there.

Anonymous said...

That's appalling. How do they get away with it? I'll warn everyone I know about them.

Anonymous said...

Same thing happened to me. My glasses were so warped I had to throw them away. Guess I should have kept them. If I had only known others had the same problem. FYI I am a woman too.

Anonymous said...

that's right. if you are a woman they will take every advantage. they did the same to me. they take advantage of seniors too. RU surprised by that?

Anonymous said...

hi Kitten, my grandparents had the same problem in toronto. they hakim ruined their brand new prescriptions. my poor old grandpa used to have such bad headaches and the dents on his nose hurt too. his were worse. they died while fighting to get them fixed or made right. hope your blog helps to warn many others to stay away from them.

Anonymous said...

Been there done that Kitten. I fought for months to try to get them to fix my glasses. Pretty much the same thing happened to me. They never did fix them properly and it was a new script too. I'm passing the word and link to your blog to friends. We'll help get the word out to potential victims.

Hi, it's Kitten. I forgot to state in the blog that, when I placed the glasses on the counter, they looked really weird. They were so warped and mangled that they didn't sit flush either way they were placed. I commented about how warped they were. The manager told me that was the way they were supposed to look. Awful, isn't it? What kind of idiot does he think I am. I have never seen anyone's brand new glasses like that before.

Anonymous said...

That is ridiculous Kitten. I am willing to bet that he would not wear glasses like that if he wears glasses at all. How can any alleged or so-called professional expect that of you?

Anonymous said...

I had no idea there were so many of us out there. Something similar happened to me too. They never fixed them either.

Anonymous said...

How dreadful. I know what it's like cause pretty much the same thing happened to me too in Western Ontario. I am a middle age woman. Are you surprised?

Anonymous said...

I had all kinds of problems with them. I'm a low income middle age woman. They don't like us in Ontario do they.

Anonymous said...

I work for a group in support of low income individuals in Ontario. I have heard many horror stories from individuals, especially women on assistance and seniors, who have had similar experiences to yours. This is a rampant problem with Hakim. I hope people will stay away from them. We are informing as many as we can.

Anonymous said...

this is too true... i know some low income people who had same kind of problem with hakim in toronto, london and kingston.

Anonymous said...

My neighbour had a similar problem. She is a senior on a fixed income in Kingston. What a coincidence. They never fixed her glasses properly either.

Anonymous said...

I'm glad I read your blog before I got my new prescription. I need new glasses in next two months. Thanks for the warning.

Anonymous said...

i know an old lady in my building who had many problems with them. sad but true.

Anonymous said...

im glad I saw this. im getting new glasses next month and won't go there.

Anonymous said...

I had similar problems in Ontario. The frames I chose were perfect but after they put in the lenses they were badly warped. They never did fix them properly. Like lots of people who wrote comments I am a woman on a pension. I paid a lot extra for mine glasses and had no insurance.

Anonymous said...

that socalled warranty is nothing but a joke. they don't honor it at all. they certainly didn't with me. i got my glasses in ontario and they ruined the frames i chose when they put the lenses in just like yours. i wonder if they treat the rich like that. i don't think so, do you?

Anonymous said...

Interesting comments. How do they get away with hurting so many people? I know someone they hurt too. They are the worst.

Anonymous said...

My cousin in Toronto had a similar problem. She's on welfare though. Her new glasses were always warped and they never fixed them. Keep us posted and we'll let everyone we know about it.

Anonymous said...

this is ridiculous. they have the worst reputation in ontario. the warranty is a joke.

Anonymous said...

I'm telling everyone I know. I already know a couple of folks who've had horrible experiences with them. Yes,they are women, widows actually, both on pension and in NB.

Anonymous said...

You should have gone to Lens Crafters. At least their warranty is good. I know a lot of people who went through a similar experience. One in Kingston, two in Toronto, one in London, 3 in NB. They were all women either on pension or welfare. I'll help let people know by passing on the link to your blog.

Anonymous said...

You got that right. Client satisfaction is not a priority especially if you are on a pension of any kind and happen to be a female. The same thing happened to me in London. They're useless.

Anonymous said...

they are very sloppy with their work especially if it is for women on fixed incomes

Anonymous said...

Wow! This is insane! I cannot believe companies are getting away with this. I am glad I found this blog, I will warn everyone I know! I wear glasses, and I know they have to be comfortable, its essential. This makes me very mad.

This is an email that I have just sent the Customer Service Dept., on Saturday October 25. 2008

Purchased single vision lenses and frames on October 4, 2008. Paid full price, minus the "Corporate Discount".
Got the call to come pick them up on Tuesday October 21, 2008. Picked them up on
Wednesday October 22, 2008. Noticed, immediately some issues. First, the tips were "chewed" , for lack of better description, and they were not the frames ordered.
Went back to location on Thursday October 23, 2008, to have them readjust the ear piece and inform them that these were not the frames ordered. Had quite a bit of resistance by employee named Amin. Not very customer friendly, or willing to compensate, other than offer to sell us the frame originally chosen for an extra $120.00.
I feel very unsatisfied with the results of compensation offer, therefore, would like to cancel our order and get our money back, but Amin has been very uncooperative at the suggestion and chose to hang up on me, rather than put me throught to the manager, at my request, to fix the problem.
Compensation is required in this case, and we would like our money back and to take our business elsewhere, as the customer service from this location is not satisfactory.
Thank you.
We will be returning the product on Tuesday October 28, 2008, and will require approval for this transaction, from someone other than AMin.
Thank you.

Well I see I am not alone.

We went with my wife (Eglington st store in Toronto) to get her new prescription glasses back in Feb 2008. It turn their $199 promo ended up costing us $600 and they assured us it was still a great deal they were giving us. My wife went back there multiple time to have the glasses adjusted and every time she told me they treated her very poorly.

One of the pairs broke after less than 6 months and my wife tried to bring it back. It took her 3 times before they accepted to change the frame but they told her they would call when it would be ready. They never did. So we went together last Saturday to see what was happening as we waited a month for the call. She told us they were back order. My wife said she never saw the sales rep so nice that time (we figured out my presence had something to do with it).

Basically the issue is not resolved yet but IT HAS COST ME $600 TO LEARN NEVER TO DO BUSINESS WITH HAKIM ANYMORE.

There is only was to get rid of business like that. Don't buy there and tell everybody you know not to buy there. They will eventually either get it right or go out of business.

Things have not changed - I went to Hakim Optical in Winnipeg (Portage Ave location) - I have coverage for glasses - when I went back to get them they told me I had to pay for them. I went home and got the receipt from Blue Cross that showed they were covered for 250.00 and they got mad at me because I refused to pay.
Service is terrible and they should not get new customers.

Oh my God, this Hakim is so bad. I live in Winnipeg, and I have been waiting since the beginning of December for my glasses. I paid extra for my indoor glasses to be progressives. First off they called me and said there had been a mistake and that the sunglasses that I had ordered had come in one my eye glass frames instead, so I had sunglasses but no reading glasses. Then after a few more weeks the reading glasses that were supposed to be progressives came in as bifocals and she swears that I didn't order progressives. I had this big discussion with her and she says it wasn't her (the manager) it was someone else. My real sunglasses were supposed to be in from Calgary today but they didn't call me and I forgot to call them. She said if I want to pay an extra $90.00 then I can have progressives on both pair of glasses. I just looked at her, she at one time said, oh we made a mistake giving you your sunglasses in the wrong frame, when the sunglasses come in come to the store and it will take two hours and we will switch the frames. I thought this was weird because the frames didn't match in size. And of course I still don't have the right sunglasses. A girl told me they were good. I also have never had this kind of problem with a company ever. I told them I was going to submit their bad service to every better business bureau across the country. I asked who the owners were and she just said, don't ask questions, they are in Ontario. I will get them back for the time and expense, and who knows if I will ever get the right sunglasses. I'd suggest everyone phone their better business bureau, I phoned mine and only got an answering machine saying if you want to complain about a company you need to send in proof. I suggest everybody here start sending in proof, so noone else gets suckered in. They have to have a board of directors unless they are frontng for someone or something. It is very shady. When I went in the other day, I told a couple go look this company up on the web before you buy here, take my word on it. I tell anyone who will listen. My advice just don't suck it up do something about it. They take us for suckers and then tell us to suck it up. I won't.

The Hakim nightmares continue. I got 2 pair of glasses that never fit right and worse is the fact that after getting them, I would fall, I couldn't read, quilt or drive at night without stress. Finally I went to my Optometrist and found out that my prescription is bad. I am now fighting with them for a new pair of glasses. I sent a letter to their Head Office and was asked to go to the store I originally dealt with for assistance. I hope everyone writes letters to the Better Business Bureaus.

Anonymous said...

Hi I am from Winnipeg and i have had nothing but problems with the winnipeg cavalier location dealing with the manager there by the name of velvet. I ordered 2 pairs of glasses through them, first off the optometrist wrote my prescription wrong, so when i got my first pair back they were completely wrong, Now i am so blind that they refused to make my glasses unless i got this ceraing coating, so i agreed no problem....so after they fixed my prescription i waited and waited and waited. I ordered my glasses in april of 2008, i called and called and called and finally i was told that the coating that they were applying tom y glasses was in JAPAN, i have never had to send my glasses to Japan before and i have been wearing glasses since i was 2. So there was my second problem, finally the pairs come back, one pair was fine the second pair was missing a lens so back off to japan they go.....finally by august of 2008, 4 months after ordering my glasses i recieved the second pair. Im not done yet haha so the first pair i had rec'd had little gems in it, well they fell out, i was on warranty so they offered me a new frame, well that took a month, they never phoned me and told me they were in, they claimed they did but never once did i receieve a phone call and they had 2 numbers they could reach me at. I will never buy from hakim optical again and i have advised everyone i know not to do so either.

I too have had the Hakim nightmare.
There is something that I would like all of the Hakim burn victims to do out there.
1) Visit your local BBB online and go to the area that says "Check out a business or Charity" Carefully note the number of complaints that Hakim has had in the past 12 to 36 months. It is likely a very low number. It is my personal experience that this is the result of the local BBB failing to report the complaint. You must press them on this online to get your complaint counted.

2) When you complain to your local BBB, do it on line so that you have an email history of your complaint.
They should respond to your email with one saying that they will submit your complaint to the vendor in question.

3) Give your local BBB a reasonable amount of time to register your complaint and get a reply from your local vendor.

4) When they reply to you that Hakim disputes your complaint (most likely result), go back to the local BBB website and make sure that the number of complaints has gone up.

5) Reply to the local BBB website and call them on it, if they have not increased the complaint count accordingly.

This is the first step that I can think of to protect other consumers from this kind of experience. I am thinking of more ways to avoid this kind of thing in the future and would appreciate suggestions.

May, 6-2009 @ 6:00PM i had an appointment with the eye examiner and then i went into Hakim Optical to try on different eye glasses and i bought the 2 for 1 deal that they had on sale, and my wife did the same thing, but before we had purchased the glasses my wife and i had talked to this girl that works there by the name of Jenny and we asked her all kinds of questions. One of the specific question we had asked her was how long it was going to take for us to receive our glasses, her reply was a week to a week and a half, so my wife and i looked at each other and we both said that it would be fine. So a week and 3 days had gone by and my wife did not hear from this guy so i decided to show up @ the store to see what was going on and when i walked in the guy knew i was not too happy with his action so right away he said that he had one pair of glasses ready for me, and of coarse i had asked him how come only 1 pair is ready and not the rest of the glasses, his reply was that the coating company was backed up and that they would be in by Wed-20-2009 i too like a fool payed him in advance, but if this dude does not deliver, he will regret every penny of the money i gave him. I will simply get a Lawyer and take this a-hole to court and i will make sure that all of his so called 130 Stores will be shut down from us suing him for every penny he's got. All of you people have done nothing wrong except went there to get eye glasses to correct your eyes because you could not see properly, and this dude is taking advantage of people that need medical attention for their eyes.

I purchased their two pairs for my son who is 10 years old. When I first went in to their Oshawa store no one seemed to want to help me, which should of been my first clue to go elsewhere. But I went with them anyway. Not even 3 weeks after my son had his glasses I was cleaning them, holding them by the nose piece, they fell apart in my hand. I took them to the store to be fixed, they fixed them (gave me a new pair) because it only took them not even 24 hours to repair them. A week later the same thing happened again. So they told me that the warranty on the pair was only good for a one time fix so they took the warranty off of the second pair, so now if something happens to the second pair I have no warranty on them. Anyway the lens popped out of the second pair...to my surprise they had screwed up the cut of the lens...so they placed a plastic spacer in around both lenses. I have two pairs of glasses with no warranty on either. One pair of the glasses I can't get the lens back in, the other pair the spacers are gone so the lenses won't stay in. My son needs his glasses, he wears them all the time other than to bed. I have e-mailed them on these matters, but of course I am a woman, so I highly doubt anything will come of this. I bought a pair of glasses from Walmart through their optical store and never had a problem with them. The only reason he doesn't wear the ones from Walmart is because he outgrew them. They lasted 3 years. Hakim's glasses didn't even last 3 weeks. I have told all my friends and family not to shop there. When I e-mailed them I also told them I would like to take their glasses back to that store and tell them to shove their glasses up their ass sideways. I have received extremely poor service and extremely poor quality glasses from the Oshawa store, and apparently it's not just their Oshawa store.

I was a Hakim Optical employee until they fired me. I am being sued by Hakim himself because I accused him of certain truthful facts which he denies. The only way he can throw eyes off of him is to get his lawyer to sue me on groundless facts that are not true. His secretary fired me over the phone and then Hakim told his lawyer to put in the legal papers that I quit. This is but one of the many lies that are being told to cover their asses. Employees are spineless cowards with no morals or principles. They treat customers exactly how they treat everyone else because that's how they are. I would like to say more but unfortunately I can't because I am being sued by Hakim so that he can cover his ass and throw all eyes off of him. Thank you for listening.

I am from Edmonton, Hakim stores are fairly new here. My experience has been just as dreadful as what has already been posted. I also made the mistake of paying first for the two pair of glasses on May 9, 2009, and to date have only just received one pair. the constant screw ups by their lab and store are intolerable. I had enough of the excuses and wanted some satisfaction. They offered a 50% discount on prescription sunglasses - I was not interested, since that is a current promotional offer. Then I was offered a 25% discount if I forgo the second pair of glasses. Since I paid almost $700.00 for two pair I didn't feel that was fair. I attempted to contact the head office, and was told Mr Hakim wasn't available. Within 1/2 hour I heard from the store and was offered a full refund, if I returned the pair I currently have. Since I need this prescription I didn't feel this was fair either. I have since taken my prescription to someone else to fill and will return this pair. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB. I don't expect much from them for my sake but perhaps it will discourage any one else in Edmonton from shopping there Hakim Optical is the joke around my office ( about 700 people), and I have told as many people as I can not to shop there. From what I have read so far, getting a full refund and returning the glasses is a first for Hakim Optical, and I will accept it. I will continue telling my story though, to as many people as possible.

I should have read this blog before I entered the Kingston store. I ordered 2 pairs of glasses at nearly $700 and was told that I would have them within 5-7 business days. That was 3 weeks ago and I have only received one pair. I paid extra to get the thin and light-weight XTREME WIDEFIELD Lens which I feel that I have not received. I have been back to the store 3 times since and despite adjustments that they have made, I am still not able to see a widefield view. I'm growing impatient about not having received the second pair and am convinced that I did not get what I paid for. If anyone knows how I could definitively test whether lenses are widefield or not, I would greatly appreciate it.

Why did not I read it before I entered the Hakim Optical in Waterloo.
lenses keep falling off my frames 3 times.
I had to go back to the shop the fix it every time.
Today 13 month later the frame just fell apart !!! Like that I took the frame off the nose and it fell apart. The poorest quality of the frame I ever seen.
the Hakim Optical asked me to pay 199$ for a new frame - you sell poor quality frame and you got nerves to ask for more money !!!
I really hate it , I prefer to pay more, but never-never-never again have any deal with Hakim Optical.

I had a recent unpleasant experience with Hakim Optical. I'm from Northwest Edmonton and lured with their excellent promotional. I bought 2 pairs of designer prescription eyeglasses and was dissatisfied with the service. With my second pair, they gave me a cheap cloth?? case. I asked if they have a better and hard case, which all designer eyeglasses have but said there is none. He replaced them with their own named case and didn't even bother to include clothe wipes that was in the cheap case. Definitely, they have a poor customer service that makes their customer not come back at all.

I got new glasses from Hakim Optical in London Ontario a rew couple of months ago and the lenses are so scratched up I can't use them. Within a couple of weeks after recieving my brand new pair of $500 glasses the lenses were getting more and more scratched up so bad that I couldn't even see good out of them. I took the glasses back and they said they could remove the anti scratch coating and anti-glare coating to remove most or all the scratches. They did this and it took most of the scratches away. I then made 100% sure I never used anything but 100% cotton clothes and proper eye glass cleaner that is safe on any type of coating. The glasses still scratched up within a few weeks. I took the glasses back to Hakim and the technician even admitted the anti-scratch coating was defective and that they could remove it again. I asked for my money back and the lady phoned the manager and he said no but again they could try removing the coatings again. I agreed to this but the glasses came back still scratched up this time. Now I have a pair of lenses that are worthless. I should have just demanded my money back the first time they got scratched up. I have another pair of 5 year old lenses that were purchased by an optimitist place in Nova Scotia call Winslate, Pothier and McGee and the lenses are still in great shape. I cleaned those old lenses with paper towels and they never got scratched up. The Hakim optical lenses I bought I really really treated them well I can't believe they wouldn't replace the defective lenses. I've ordered a new pair of lenses from Lens Crafters but its costing me another $400 because I have a very strong perscription and it costs a lot to make.
